Signs That Your Ductless System Needs Repairs

Ductless systems are just as susceptible to problems as any other climate control system. The more you use it, the more wear and tear you put on it and the more likely it is to develop an issue. Also like other systems, one of the best ways to protect your ductless system from problems is to keep an eye out for warning signs. The sooner you can recognize the signs that your ductless system is in need of repair, the more damage you can prevent. Let’s take a look at some signs that your ductless system needs professional repair services.

Drop in Output

A steady decline in the amount of warm or cool air that your ductless system can put out is not a good sign. Typically, this is the result of a refrigerant leak somewhere in the system. Refrigerant is the lifeblood of the unit. Ductless systems evaporate and condense refrigerant to move heat from one place to another. There must always be a specific amount of refrigerant in the system, or else it will suffer an eventual loss of output and break down. If you notice a drop in output, or liquid of any kind dripping from the system, call for repairs right away.

Grinding

Each air handler in a ductless system makes use of oiled bearings to reduce the friction on the motor during operation. These bearings wear down over time, causing friction to increase and creating a loud grinding sound when the air handler is operating. If you hear a grinding sound coming from one of your air handlers, you should call for repairs as soon as possible. Otherwise, the air handler could overheat and burn out.
